Frequently Asked Questions

Does acupuncture hurt?

Some claim that acupuncture is painless, but we prefer to say that it depends. While needles can usually be applied in a way that is pain-free, this is not always the best or fastest route towards reaching your health goals. If mild pain, pricking or other similar sensations are an issue, let your practitioner know so they can take this into account when developing your treatment plan and applying your needles.

What if I’m afraid of needles?

Acupuncture needles are super thin, and a treatment feels nothing like a hypodermic injection from your doctor. We work with new patients every day and some are not so keen on needles. Just let us know how you feel and we’ll make sure you are comfortable. Once they give it a try, most people find acupuncture extremely relaxing.

Do you accept insurance for acupuncture treatments?

No, we don’t accept insurance.  However, we will provide a superbill that you may submit to your insurance for reimbursement.

Is acupuncture safe?

Acupuncture is very safe when performed by a Licensed Acupuncturist (L.Ac.). If anyone knows how safe acupuncture is, it’s the insurance companies. The minimal cost of our malpractice insurance speaks volumes about the safety of this medicine.  All acupuncture needles are single use, disposable needles.

Is acupuncture safe during pregnancy?

YES! Acupuncture is completely safe during pregnancy, and is proven to be extremely beneficial and effective. In the first trimester it helps to maintain a pregnancy, nourish the body and alleviates early symptoms such as fatigue, nausea and heartburn

Are there any side effects?

One of the great advantages of acupuncture is that it is very safe. Other than an occasional bruise, there are no side effects.

How long is a session?

It truly depends on the patient’s condition and complexity of the case.  Average needle retention is 20-25 minutes.

How many treatments will I need?

The number of procedures you will need will vary based on your specific condition, the amount of time you’ve had it, etc.

Where do the needles go?

Needles are placed at specific acupuncture points on the body. Depending on the specific condition the needles commonly are placed at or below the elbows, and at or below the knees. Other common areas are on the back, abdomen and ears.

If you have been exposed to someone with Covid-19 in the past 14 days, we will not be able to accept you as a patient at this time. If you have traveled outside of the US in the past 30 days we will not be able to accept you as a patient at this time.

Following are our new procedures:

  1. You will be pre-screened via phone prior to your appointment.

  2. When you arrive at the office, please wait in your car and call the office. You will be told when it is safe to come in.

  3. Upon entering the office, you will be required to hand sanitize. We will do a quick temperature check, if you are over 100.4F, you will be asked to leave and call your doctor. Temperature checks will be done at each visit.

What we need from you:

  1. Please do not bring anyone with you to your appointment.

  2. Please DO NOT bring unnecessary items into the office with you, i.e., purses, bags, water bottles, iPads, etc..  The fewer items you have the less likely we will have any issues with contamination.
